Term has started so on with the show. Some minor experience has been gained in creating four 'Submission Zones' which allow electronic copies of assignments to be uploaded and submitted for most elements of assessment in the Department. Students seem to find it easy enough to use.
The two obvious key areas of the project seem to be designing the interface and migration of materials from the existing system. The interface is going to be the most important aspect. Courseware has been successful because of its ease of use for both groups of users, staff and students. My biggest fear is that this simple interface can't be replicated within WebCT without adding extra layes of navigation for students, and without adding extra complexity for staff. We shall see! I need to get this right before any thoughts of content migration (which may be poor project management)!
The project also has two large thorns in its side. One is the ongoing issue of WebCT and MMU, the other is now the issue of WebCT and Blackboard.. Follow this link for information on the merger.
